Listening Activities
New! Get your students started in school this year with two new listening activities for use in your library or media center.
- Library Lion listening activity: Using the book Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen, students learn library rules from a lion who roars in the library!
- Clara and the Bookwagon listening activity: A bookwagon comes to Clara's farm, but will Papa let her learn to read? Students will follow Clara and Dad's emotions in the story Clara and the Bookwagon by Nancy Smiler Levinson.

Starting an RFB&D Learning Through Listening Center

Special Lesson Plan Topics for Librarians
September 26th to October 3rd, 2009 is Banned Books Week. Read about RFB&D's participation in this important event, and check out these lesson plans on titles from the American Library Association's list of challenged books and books by frequently challenged authors.
Award winners: RFB&D's library has over 50,000 audio books, including numerous award-winning literature titles. The Learning Through Listening website features selected lesson plans on award winners and notable books from the ALA's Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC).
Accelerated readers: RFB&D's library has over 4,300 accelerated readers, and over 160 of these have lesson plans available. Check out this sample list of accelerated readers with lesson plans or search our lesson plan repository by title or keyword.
"One Book" program: "One Book" projects are community-wide reading programs initiated by the Washington Center for the Book in 1998 that are now being introduced across the U.S.A. and around the world. Storytime and Read-alouds
The Learning Through Listening lesson plan repository contains lesson plans that can be used in conjunction with reading stories aloud.
